Employees trained to improve work productivity

July 24, 2018

Sixty eight university personnel involved in food processing, agri-business, and accommodation were trained on how to improve their services for greater productivity.

The first of the two trainings ran from July 14  to 21 at the University Function Hall. Of this number, 35 are food service workers, 18 in the agribusiness service, and 15 are involved in accommodation services.

Ms. Bella C. Gervacio, Chief for Training Services, said that the training program aims to capacitate personnel in the Business Directorate (BD) as part of their professional growth to become more creative and competent employees.

"We have responded to these employees' call for such training program so that they will be updated on the new trend of service delivery that might enhance their capabilities and lead to higher collection of revenues," Gervacio said.

Last year, food, accommodation, and meat processing services were the top-performing income-generating activities of MMSU. The food services unit alone realized a total income of P1,864,723 while the accommodation services unit raked in a total income of P1,467,968. On the other hand, the meat processing unit had a total sales of P5,551,532 or a net income of P551,012.

Because of these revenues from the income-generating projects (IGPs), the university has issued year-end gift certificates to its employees, which totaled P1.8 million.

Aside from the lecture sessions, the BD staff also conducted benchmark activities last July 21 in successful business establishments in Ilocos Norte such as Venvi Hotel, Fort Ilocandia Resort in Laoag City, FREDDO's meat shop in San Nicolas, Bellagio Hills in Paoay, and Romaine Organics in Batac City.

"These activities were included in the training program so that the staff can observe the activities of these mainstream business establishments and learn from the best practices of industry leaders," Gervacio said, hoping that these skills acquired by the trainees will help reflect a friendly image of MMSU as an academic institution to outsiders and visitors.

The training was initiated by the Extension Directorate and experts from the College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA), and the Human Resource Management Office. Resource persons were the faculty members from the College of Industrial Technology, College of Arts and Sciences; and the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development.
